St. Kitts and Nevis is a part of the Leeward Islands group lying about 427.5 km (225 miles) south-east of Puerto Rico and to the north of the Windward group of islands.

Originally settled by Caribs, and by the British in 1623 who fought with the French for possession. The island was finally ceded to Britain in 1783 and gained independence in 1983.

St Lucia is one of the Windward Islands between Martinique (39.9 kl 21 Miles to the left and St Vincent (49.4 km 26 mls to the south) and is 209 km (110 mls) northwest of Barbados.

Amerindians were the first inhabitants. French colonisation began in 1650 and the struggle for possession between the French and English ended in 1803 with the island becoming an English colony. The Island gained independence in 1979.
